I wrote this poem a few years ago. I will share it with you for today's post.
Happy Birthday Holy Child
Happy Birthday
little baby.
Hope your season’s
bright.
We’re off to shop,
and buy a tree,
Then later
Christmas lights!
Lots to do this
time of year, Lots of folks to see.
All the traditions
and trappings and galas,
Without them what
would Christmas be?
Might even go to
church this year.
Just might squeeze
it in,
That depends on
how much Christmas cheer,
Making merry ain’t
no sin!
Happy birthday
Jesus boy.
We love your
charity feasts!
So much good done
in your name.
Those with the
most share with those who have least.
It makes us all
feel good,
No room in the inn
for our shame.
It’s all about
giving you know.
Filling the
stockings and piling up boxes,
With ribbons and
tinsel and bows.
Me spending on
you, you spending on me,
Whether we need
this stuff or not!
We all feel a
little silly,
When we realize
how much we have bought!
Happy birthday
holy child.
You came so far to
save us.
Why do we give
each other gifts,
And forget the
gift you gave us?
Why no stocking
hung for you?
Why no brightly
wrapped box?
What gift could we
possibly give?
To match your
matchless cost?
Perhaps we could
just remember your love,
And carry it with
us wherever we go.
Sharing it with
every stranger,
Until the whole
world comes to know,
That you are the
only gift worth giving.
The one true thing
that we seek.
God’s gift that
turned the dying to living,
Sweet holy child,
so meek.
So make some room
for him if you’re able.
Bring him in from
the cold.
Bring him in from
that lowly stable,
And let him live
in your soul.
Sing a song for
the Christ child.
Sing a birthday
song.
Happy birthday
little babe,
Whose come to right all wrong.
For unto us a
child is born,
Unto us a son is
given.
We praise your
name.
We’re glad you
came.
Happy birthday Son
of Heaven.
